PLATFORMS AND CELLS

IC-Production Cells

The IC-Cell Family was developed to support high-quality, safe and reliable manufacturing processes. The foundation for highly precise and dynamic applications with our IP-Robot platforms and Infotech Component Matrix is formed by a robust base paired with a massive machine baseplate.

The Production Cells are cleanroom-compatible and offer comprehensive electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection. They can be used individually or connected in a line through an SMEMA interface.

Access to the workspace is provided via a roll-up door at the front. A control panel comprising a screen, keyboard, touch panel and status light serves as the user interface. Additional peripherals, such as a deadman switch or a barcode scanner, are available upon request.

IP-100

The smallest member of the IP family is ideal for processes requiring only a short travel range. Equipped with linear axes, the IP-100 is used as a feeder for the larger IP-520 and IP-620 main portals. The IP-100 reliably delivers high precision for sorting processes, parts handling and simple assembly processes, all while taking up a minimum amount of space.

Up to six IP-100 portals can operate autonomously in an Infotech Cell.

Travel range:
Varies from 93 mm x 440 mm to 148 mm x 680 mm

IP-500

The IP-500 platform is ideal for precise automation processes involving low production volumes. Thanks to its linear axes, the portal requires minimal maintenance and enables users to carry out highly precise assembly and dispensing processes without incurring high investment costs.

The IP-500 is installed in a Production Cell as an extension of the Desktop model. Consequently, the portal can operate safely at higher speeds. It can also be extended with feeding systems such as conveyors, vibratory feeders, and pallet and tray stackers.

Travel range:
400 mm x 400 mm

IP-620 and IP-720

For applications involving large assemblies or wafers, Infotech offers the IP-620 and the IP-720 platforms. The IP-620 is equipped with two linear axes that run simultaneously, enabling highly precise processes to be carried out at high speeds.

The IP-720 is identical to the IP-620 but is designed for applications requiring maximum speed.

The two platforms can be fitted with any modules from Infotech's proven Component Matrix. They are designed for power module production applications where picking up wafers and placing them in large oven carriers is essential. Its dimensions allow the IP-620 and 720 to fit in an IC-1200 Production Cell or equivalent housing provided by the customer or integrator.

Travel range:
Varies from 210 mm x 400 mm to 540 mm x 730 mm

    HEAD PERIPHERALS

    Overview

The Infotech Component Matrix offers a wide range of peripheral heads that can be combined to meet our customers' specific requirements. These include cameras, assembly heads, ultrasonic heads, thermobonding heads and dispensing units.

The applied modules are customized and optimized according to customer requirements, without affecting their basic functions.

    Flexibility

The interaction between assembly heads, axis systems and vision systems allows us to complete complex assembly tasks without the need for specialized machine engineering. This flexibility is important for users and customers because it allows them to complete challenging tasks with minimal financial and time-related risks.
The modules of the Infotech Component Matrix can be adapted to application requirements and optimized for the process without affecting basic functions.

    Efficiency

Infotech machines are highly precise and fast-acting. The head configuration can be adapted to performance requirements in order to maximize utilization based on the available floor space.

In addition to the head camera, up to six assembly heads or three dispensing axes can be configured directly onto the robot head. Each unit operates independently, enabling multiple parts or different dispensing media to be handled simultaneously on the same machine.

    Compactness

Floor space costs money! This is especially true in clean rooms, where space is at a premium. We design our robot heads to be as compact as possible. Multiple processes such as assembly, dispensing, measurement and curing can be combined, minimizing space without compromising functionality or reliability. This compact design enables us to deliver a full production process with fewer machines than standard equipment would allow.

Depending on the dispensing technique used, dispensing heads have a grid size of only 20 mm. Assembly heads with a grid of only 17 mm are even more compact.

    Image Processing

Our machines are equipped with camera units that locate substrates and components for calibration and inspection. The integrated image processing software provides flexible functions and adjustable lighting parameters to ensure reliable structure detection. These processes are firmly embedded in every production program and are essential for all Infotech machine applications.

      TABLE PERIPHERALS

      Overview

Table peripherals are defined as machine modules that do not move within the workspace. Examples include the fluxer shown in the picture. All table modules are arranged specifically for each application within the robot head's travel range to optimize the use of available space.

Other table peripherals include upward facing cameras, height measurement systems, calibration and cleaning units, conveyors and shuttles, and loading and unloading units.

      Complexity

Fast processes require short travel distances. At the same time, it is also necessary to be able to perform multiple process steps in the smallest possible space. Our table modules are extremely reliable and compact and are perfectly suited to meeting these requirements.

All motorized table modules are driven by real-time closed-loop control. This enables highly parallelized manufacturing processes and prevents unnecessary idle times.

      3D-Processes

The degrees of freedom of our table peripherals extend beyond two dimensions. Workpieces such as 3D-MID assemblies can be turned in any position for dispensing or assembly.
Three-dimensional processes also include randomly turning, flipping and rotating workpieces in order to apply an adhesive bead all around.

      Leveling

In many microelectronic and semiconductor technology applications, it is essential that parts are completely plane-parallel to the substrate. Among our table peripherals, you will find a variety of modules that automatically align the head layer plane-parallel to the substrate layer. Typical applications include eutectic bonding VCSEL diodes to their submount, and assembling large semiconductor chips (such as image sensors) in their packages.

      Autonomy

In order to increase the autonomy of our machines, we have developed a range of table peripherals for cleaning, calibration, process control and automated tool changes (see the attached photo for an example). The Infotech Component Matrix adheres to the philosophy that machine operators should not be able to influence process quality. This means that all process-relevant functions should be automated and self-controlled for as long as possible.

        FEEDING PERIPHERALS

        Pallets

In many applications, assemblies and workpieces are supplied on pallets and trays. Infotech has developed loading and unloading systems for all types of pallets, including 2" and 4" waffle trays, JEDEC trays and many more besides. Pallets can be de-stacked on a conveyor and moved directly from a stack to a centering station.

Pallet handling is extremely smooth, shock-free and guarantees the best possible protection from damage and loss.

        Wafer

For semiconductor and microelectronic applications, Infotech offers a range of wafer handling systems for specialized feeding purposes. Wafers with sawn dies mounted on adhesive foil can be fed to the machine either fully or semi-automatically. The wafer is located and aligned in rotation and stretched if necessary. Various frame types are supported, including Disco, K&S and ER expansion rings of up to 12 inches.

The dies are typically ejected from the adhesive foil using a suitable tool and then picked up and placed by one or more assembly heads. The ejection unit can be optionally equipped with a pepper pot changing system. Dies with an edge length above 0.2 mm can be reliably fed and picked up as standard.

        Preforms

In flux-free joining processes, solder preforms are used instead of solder paste. These preforms are supplied to the machine on a reel and are cut to the correct length before being picked up and placed. This eliminates the need for an additional work step involving the transfer of the cut pieces to trays.

The preform feeder can be changed without opening the machine door. It is prepared with new material at an external setup station for its next use.

Preform tapes, ranging in width from 2 mm to 26 mm, can be fed and cut. The cutting accuracy is typically below 70 µm @ 3σ.

        Blister Trays

The Stack Tray Feeder supplies the machine with bulky parts, such as watch cases or plastic injection moulding pieces, in stackable blister trays. The unit contains two stacks: one that de-stacks full blister trays/pallets, and another that re-stacks empty ones.

The order can be changed depending on whether the feeder is being used for loading or unloading parts. Blister tray handling is completely smooth and shock-free to guarantee the best possible protection for the contents against damage and loss.
We can adapt the feeder to suit the desired format, size and orientation of the blister tray.

        Bulk Good

We offer a range of vibrating systems for small parts in bulk packaging. These intelligent bulk good feeders are piezo-powered and handle parts with great care. Vibratory movements only occur when there are no valid parts available. An integrated vision system supports the feeding process and can check the availability and correct position of parts. At the same time, the vision system can perform a quality inspection.

Compared to conventional feeder bowls, the combination of a feeder and a camera is highly innovative and suited to nearly all small parts, regardless of their design.

        Large Formats

Large-format workpiece carriers are commonly employed in manufacturing lines incorporating ovens. Infotech machines can handle oven carriers to avoid the need to repack assemblies from small carrier formats into large oven carriers. These carriers can be loaded onto or unloaded from a stack and passed through the machine on a conveyor.

        Exotic Formats

We offer customer specific solutions for oddly shaped or exotic trays and carrier formats for which no standard feeding system is available. These solutions can, for example, enable preheating en route to the process station or exposure to UV light after adhesive dispensing processes on the output conveyor.

Our product range also includes special loading and unloading units that can be added to existing systems. Our engineers and software developers look forward to providing customized solutions for your specific requirements.
